The People Behind the Work

Samuel Adams & Company is based in Butler, Maryland — in the heart of Baltimore County's horse country. We work on large estate properties in Monkton, Hunt Valley, and Butler, and on distinguished homes in Roland Park, Guilford, Homeland, Ruxton, Towson, and the neighborhoods in between. Our clients care about their homes the way we care about building them: with attention to detail, respect for tradition, and a long-term perspective.

We coordinate every detail so you don't have to — and when the job calls for it, we can strap on a tool belt too.

We manage 15 to 20 specialized subcontractors per project, each one vetted, insured, and held to our quality standards. You deal with one company, one point of contact, one warranty. But unlike firms that never touch a tool, our leadership team has decades of hands-on building experience. We've framed walls, hung doors, and built custom millwork — so when we inspect our subcontractors' work, we know exactly what we're looking at.

The People Who Build It

Sam Elder Founder & CEO

Sam has spent 15 years learning how homes are built — and how they fail. That experience shapes everything about how SA&Co operates: the thorough preconstruction process, the vetted subcontractor network, the detailed documentation, and the 20-year warranty.

Sam is a builder who speaks the language of classical architecture. He understands proportion, scale, and the traditions that produce homes aging gracefully for generations. He's not a designer — but he's the builder that designers trust to execute their vision at the highest level. And he's just as comfortable walking a job site in steel-toes as he is walking a client through a detailed estimate.

When he's not running projects or working through estimates, Sam is with his family, developing the company's long-term vision, or talking to a homeowner about why their 1925 Colonial deserves better than a quick bid and a hope for the best.

Ken Barron Construction Manager

Ken brings over 30 years of construction experience to every project. He's the one on your job site every day — managing daily operations, coordinating subcontractors, enforcing quality standards, and solving problems before the client ever knows about them.

Ken founded his own firm, KHB Builders, where he built a reputation for exceptional custom millwork and hands-on project management. He went on to Pyramid Construction, where he managed millions of dollars of architectural millwork for some of the largest custom homes in the region. That combination — the eye of a craftsman and the discipline of a large-project manager — is exactly what premium renovations demand. He's one of those rare professionals who can run a complex schedule in the morning and build a custom piece of trim carpentry in the afternoon.

Kris Rinehart Office Manager

Kris keeps the operation running. Scheduling, subcontractor compliance, documentation, receipt processing, and everything administrative that holds a construction company together. He's the first point of contact for scheduling and the person making sure every file, every certificate, and every invoice is exactly where it needs to be.

Sharon Epple Bookkeeper

Sharon manages SA&Co's financial operations through Benchmark Business Solutions — payroll, accounts payable and receivable, project cost tracking, and financial reporting. Her work ensures that every dollar on your project is accounted for and that our billing is as transparent as our communication.

Project Manager

We're looking for an experienced construction project manager who knows residential renovation inside and out — someone who can manage a schedule, communicate with clients, hold subcontractors accountable, and isn't afraid to strap on a tool belt when the job calls for it. If you have a background in high-end residential construction and want to build something meaningful with a growing company, we'd like to talk.

Three Divisions of Service

Renovations

Kitchens, bathrooms, and the spaces that define daily life — plus specialty rooms like wine cellars, home theaters, fitness studios, steam rooms, and private libraries. From a single powder room to a full-house transformation, every renovation is planned through our Building the Blueprint process and backed by our 20-year warranty.

Historical Replication & Restoration

Sensitive restoration of historic homes following the Secretary of the Interior Standards. We work in CHAP-designated districts and alongside preservation architects to honor the original craftsmanship while bringing homes up to modern living standards. Period-appropriate materials, methods, and details — done right.

Additions & New Construction

Room additions, second-story expansions, guest houses, garages, and ground-up construction. The finished product should look like it was always there — architecturally, structurally, and in every finish detail. We've built everything from timber-frame towers to full estate outbuildings.

Our Pillars

Integrity

Our word is our bond. Honest estimates, transparent billing, direct communication. If something goes wrong, we own it. We keep you informed every step of the way so you can make confident decisions about your project.

Craftsmanship

We build homes meant to last a hundred years. Every detail, from the foundation to the finish trim, is held to the same standard. We don't cut corners, we don't take shortcuts, and we don't compromise on materials or workmanship.

Simplicity

Construction is complex enough without adding unnecessary confusion. We keep our processes clear, our communication direct, and our documentation organized. You should always know what's happening on your project, when, and why.
